Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute

Defence technology project competition

On 14-15 May, the National Technical University of Ukraine «Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute» hosted the final of Ukraine’s first defence technology project competition. It is held as the defence panel of the well-known Ukrainian festival of innovation projects «Sikorsky Challenge».

The competition featured the project “Device for vacuum absorption and wound sanitation“ by our student Oksana Rutska.

The device for vacuum absorption and wound sanitation is a vacuum therapy or VAC therapy (vacuum-assisted closure) device with wound sanitation. It is a new approach to highly effective treatment of the wound surface, based on combining the local effect of negative pressure with the action of finely dispersed sprayed particles of medicines.

Vacuum absorption and ultrasonic irrigation of the wound surface complement each other as wound treatment methods. Combining them makes it possible to speed up patients’ recovery and leads to faster healing of wounds, wound surfaces and gunshot wounds.
